Forging future talents: Showcasing Industrial Mechanics at WorldSkills 2024 in France
After showcasing athletic prowess at the recent Olympic Games, France now prepares to host the 2024 WorldSkills international competition, where top young talents from around the world in skilled trades, including industrial mechanics, will take center stage.
More than 1,400 young tradespeople from 70 different countries will descend upon the city of Lyon, France, in September 2024 to compete in the 47th WorldSkills Competition. On Acoem’s home turf, participants will demonstrate their expertise with the company’s reliability tools, embodying the spirit of competition and excellence. Acoem is proud to be a bronze sponsor of WorldSkills 2024 and recognizes the importance of this event in highlighting the next generation of industry leaders
The gold standard in skill development
WorldSkills is dedicated to inspiring young people to develop a passion for skills and pursuing excellence through competitions and promotions. It develops skills through global training standards, benchmarking systems and enhancing industry engagement. It also influences industry, government and educators through cooperation and research.
Held every two years, the international WorldSkills Competition is considered the Olympic Games of the trade sector. It inspires young competitors 21 years and under to reach new heights and represent their profession at the highest skill level. The field of industrial mechanics was first included in the 2015 WorldSkills event in São Paulo, Brazil as an exhibition trade and two years later, in Abu Dhabi, it became a permanent and official part of the event program.
As a profession, industrial mechanics gives people the chance to work across a large range of industrial settings and production plants – designing, planning, installing, commissioning, maintaining, repairing and decommissioning industrial machinery. It can be highly specialised or more generalist, providing scope for a flexible career.
For the young industrial mechanics competing at WorldSkills, the benefits are invaluable. Not only do they get to travel to different countries and meet industry colleagues, but they also have the opportunity to excel in their chosen profession, expand their knowledge about other trades and get bragging rights – which can be leveraged for their resume and future job options.
Supporting the next generation of industrial mechanics
Acoem AB Sweden has been involved in the industrial mechanics competition at WorldSkills since its inception, by providing alignment and vibration monitoring tools, as well as rigs for the competition. In the last two editions, Acoem AB has gone even further by offering a specific one-week bootcamp at their facilities near Göteborg to all competitors.
This bootcamp provides a valuable opportunity for participants to be trained by professionals, helping them prepare for the competition while fostering connections with peers from around the world. Through training, sharing, mentoring, and transmitting a passion for the trade, Acoem AB aims to make a significant difference in the experience and success of these young talents.
Peter Strömberg, Chief Technology Officer at Acoem AB is looking forward to the WorldSkills Competition being held in Lyon this year.
“We have a long and close history with the WorldSkills organisation and its competitions. We have always had a strong commitment to education and are proud to support students and trade apprentices with the most up-to-date tools for vibration measurement, machinery alignment and associated predictive maintenance processes” commented Peter.
“We are once again excited to be a WorldSkills 2024 sponsor and to continue the tradition of investing in the future of industrial mechanics on a global stage,” he added.
