Pioneering wireless innovation: Acoem, from the first wireless system to next-generation capabilities

Acoem has always been at the forefront of innovation and leveraging technology to enhance the user experience in the field of reliability of rotating machines.

With the introduction of the first icon-based, touchscreen shaft alignment systems, Acoem redefined industry standards — transforming complex procedures into intuitive tasks and empowering field operators with game-changing simplicity. This technological breakthrough not only improved alignment processes but also set a new benchmark for usability and precision in the field.

As a global organisation dedicated to continually seeking new ways to extend machinery lifecycles and make maintenance of critical and balance-of-plant machinery easier and more efficient, Acoem has made significant investments in cutting-edge technology and solutions that have revolutionised the industry and changed the way that crucial data is captured to inform decision-making for reliability maintenance.

Developing the industry’s first wireless shaft alignment system

In 2006, Acoem introduced the Fixturlaser XA, the industry’s first wireless shaft alignment system. At a time when wireless technology was still emerging, Acoem recognised its potential to transform the way maintenance was performed. What followed was a rapid shift in the market, as customers quickly embraced the freedom and efficiency that wireless operation made possible.

Leveraging safety with industry’s first wireless sensors for portable vibration analysis

Acoem was the first company to introduce wireless sensors for vibration analysis – minimising machinery downtime, lowering health and safety risks associated with users needing to be in close proximity to dangerous equipment, and freeing technicians and engineers from the constraints of cumbersome cabling and safety around rotating equipment.

With the introduction of the Acoem Falcon in 2013 the original wireless portable data logger and analyser – Acoem built on this earlier success and began a wireless dynasty that has continued to expand and grow to incorporate enhanced capabilities, new solutions and greater flexibility for its users. Capitalising on the superiority of removing wiring and its associated risks – including constant damage, ongoing replacement requirements, potential safety issues and limited distances between sensors and data loggers, Acoem was able to achieve greater data precision, accessibility and flexibility for its customers.

Forging ahead with remote diagnostics

Following the success and global adoption of the Falcon, Acoem continued to innovate with the release of the Eagle that same year. This significant technologically-advanced leap forward was once again a first-of-its-kind wireless solution – facilitating automatic monitoring, remote diagnostics and data measurement. The Eagle was the first vibration analysis tool to provide the quality precision data needed for remote diagnostic capabilities of critical machinery.

With manual measurement no longer required, service technicians could avoid entering dangerous areas while ensuring that they still captured accurate vibration data and still would receive triggered alarms in the event of potential machinery failures. Installation of the wireless sensors was considerably quicker and easier. Other advantages of Acoem Eagle included its ability to automatically take vibration measurements in three directions as well as the bearing temperature, saving time and resources, and minimising operational downtime. Embedded with averaged spectra for data analysis and accuracy, it calculates various vibratory levels, including velocity, acceleration, temperature and peak-to-peak measurements, and now powered by Accurex automatic diagnostic AI, delivering real-time insights to support rapid decision-making.

Adding the power of AI to our wireless solutions

Leveraging over 50 years of reliability expertise, in 2013, Acoem introduced its Accurex™ artificial intelligence platform and incorporated it across Acoem’s top-tier wireless vibration analysis solutions to provide Acoem customers with even greater predictive insight into their machinery’s condition.

Accurex’s automatic diagnostic capabilities drive accurate, automatic and instantaneous results, simplifying decision-making and enhancing operational reliability – reducing time spent on complex diagnostics and delivering actionable insights in seconds.

2025: The tradition of wireless innovation continues

Never resting on its laurels, Acoem is now releasing its latest wireless solution this year. Safety, user comfort and accessibility remain the main motivators for Acoem’s research and development activities, and this newest tool will complement the existing wireless range while breaking new ground to improve the user experience:

Acoem proudly unveils the Wireless Balancer.

This powerful new tool enhances the balancing process, featuring:

  • Wireless sensors for improved safety & comfort
