The Importance of Monitoring Toxic Gases in Road Tunnels

Monitoring toxic gases and emissions in road tunnels is crucial for ensuring safety due to the accumulation of harmful substances like Nitrogen Dioxide (NO₂), Nitrogen Monoxide (NO), and Carbon Monoxide (CO). Despite advances in vehicle emission technology, these gases pose significant health risks, including respiratory issues and potential fatalities. Effective ventilation systems and precise monitoring tools, such as Acoem’s VICONOX, are essential for maintaining safe air quality in tunnels. Continuous monitoring allows for real-time adjustments in ventilation, ensuring that toxic gas levels remain within safe limits and protecting both drivers and maintenance workers from exposure.

The presence of these gases can lead to severe respiratory issues and other health problems. Therefore, the integration of advanced tunnel sensors and monitoring systems is crucial. Acoem Tunnel Sensors’ systems continuously measure the concentration of toxic gases and adjust the ventilation accordingly, ensuring a safe environment. By implementing these technologies, tunnel operators can significantly reduce the risk of toxic gas exposure, safeguarding public health and improving overall tunnel safety.

Advanced Monitoring Technologies

Acoem Tunnel Sensors’ monitoring systems are designed to provide a complete and integrated approach to tunnel safety and operational efficiency. By combining various advanced technologies, we ensure that every aspect of the tunnel environment is continuously monitored and controlled. Our solutions cover a broad spectrum of needs, including gas monitoring, pollution monitoring, and visibility monitoring, ensuring that all critical factors are kept within safe and optimal ranges. These systems provide real-time data on air quality, visibility, and luminance, ensuring that tunnel environments remain safe for all users.

VICONOX – A comprehensive solution for monitoring gases and visibility in tunnels, ensuring compliance with safety standards.

The VICONOX tunnel atmosphere monitor is an all-in-one sensor designed to measure NO₂, NO (NOx), CO, visibility, and temperature (or various combinations thereof) within road traffic tunnels, rail tunnels, or other confined spaces. These measurements are integral to air quality management systems, supporting ventilation control and secondary smoke detection.
