Acoem at OzWater26: Water Monitoring in Australia Demands More

Acoem returned to OzWater this year as the sector gathered in Brisbane for three days of discussion, industry debate and product demonstration. For us, it was an opportunity to do what we always try to do at industry events: have the detailed conversations with clients that don’t happen by simply sending through a brochure.

The water monitoring work Acoem undertakes across Australia spans a significant range of environments and applications. From large-scale groundwater programs covering thousands of bores across remote Western Australian mining tenements, to water quality systems deployed on rivers, catchments and treatment infrastructure, the common thread is always the same. 

The data needs to be accurate, defensible and fit for the purpose it will be used for, whether that’s internal operational decisions, licence reporting, or regulatory audit.

We were pleased to demonstrate a range of our products, including the Maxx P6L Sampler, Maxx Measuring Kiosk integrated with Greenspan Sensors and Kunak Air Monitoring Sensor to visitors across the three days, as well as explain in detail how our NATA-accredited, end-to-end water monitoring and sampling solutions are purpose-built for Australian conditions.

What customers told us at OzWater26

Interest at the stand this year was strong across a range of applications, with one clear standout. 

Acoem’s MAXX Measuring Kiosk drew consistent attention from visitors, with many responding to its off-the-shelf configuration and the ability to draw directly from the measurement point to the enclosure using an array of integrated sensors alongside on-site sample collection. 

The system’s capacity for remote sampling with SMS notification for bottle collection was a particular point of discussion, with several visitors recognising the practical value of on-demand site visits over scheduled ones, reducing both time and cost in the field.

Attendance across the three days reflected the breadth of the water sector itself, with visitors ranging from equipment suppliers and water utilities through to government water and wastewater service providers.

The environments we work in

Water monitoring in Australia is not a straightforward proposition. Distances are vast with sites often being remote and off-grid. Conditions in summer are extreme and flooding seasons can be violent and fast-moving. 

The monitoring systems that serve these environments need to be engineered for them, not adapted after the fact.

Acoem’s groundwater and surface water solutions include solar-powered remote monitoring stations, multi-parameter sondes and probes, automatic sampling systems capable of operating unattended across wet season conditions, and the EWMS data management platform, which aggregates, visualises and manages data from across a monitoring network.

During this year’s OzWater 26 event, there was a strong showing for Acoem’s Reliability division, with meaningful conversations around condition monitoring services, both remote and attended. 

What the event reinforced was the large scope of what Acoem delivers across requirements for water, ambient gas and condition monitoring, from the supply of tailored solutions through to on-site support delivered by our field technology team.
