Acoem Showcases its Tunnel Air Quality Expertise at ATS-SOM Workshop in Melbourne

Driving tunnel monitoring into the future

The Australian Tunnelling Society’s ATS-SOM Workshop will be held at the Victorian Tunnelling Centre in Melbourne from 3-4 October 2024. Focusing specifically on tunnel systems, the two-day event features presentations, site visits, demonstrations and interactive displays of tunnel equipment and services.

Acoem Australasia is proud to be participating in the workshop. Our tunnel team will be exhibiting Acoem’s signature range of tunnel air quality sensors and monitoring solutions, meeting with customers, performing calibrations and providing personalised demonstrations of the equipment.

The Acoem team will also be presenting during the dinner session, highlighting tunnel air quality monitoring projects Acoem is working on across Australia, the important role that CEMS and ambient air monitoring play in tunnel infrastructure, upcoming projects, Australian standards and maintenance requirements.

New build tunnels

We work collaboratively with ventilation contractors to ensure we commission the best possible road tunnel monitoring equipment to meet each project’s specifications, whether that is a fully integrated measurement system, a network of instruments or a single sensor or component. We offer flexible solutions that allow for the nuances of each project.

Bringing global expertise to Australia’s largest tunnel projects

Accurate and efficient air quality monitoring is critical over each Tunnel project’s lifecycle. This includes protecting workers during construction, drivers/riders using the tunnel, and local businesses, residents and the environment from excessive emissions. The Acoem Australasia Tunnel monitoring team has extensive background working on major CEMS projects around the world, including Chile, Mexico, Hong Kong, China and New Zealand. Over the past five years, the Acoem tunnel team has been instrumental in safeguarding air quality on some of Australia’s largest tunnel infrastructure projects, including West Connex’s M4 East, M8, M4-M8 Link and Rozelle Interchange, North Connex, M6, M5 East and the Westgate Tunnel project.

Acoem’s exclusive Tunnel Equipment Facility

The Acoem team is responsible for establishing a purpose-built workshop for tunnel air quality monitoring hardware demonstrations, in-depth training, testing, and repairs at the group’s Sydney office.

The Acoem Tunnel Equipment Facility is a one-of-a-kind center, designed to give customers and delivery partners access to live demonstrations of all our tunnel monitoring equipment in operation, as well as specialised training on our range of solutions prior to their commissioning on site.

During tender processes, potential customers tour the facility, and once a contract is awarded, the project installation and commissioning teams undergo a tailored training program at the facility.

In July this year, the facility hosted an in-house training session for tunnel contractors UGL over two consecutive days – Day 1 being for Melbourne’s Westgate Tunnel project and Day 2 for the Sydney M6 project team.

With decades of experience and global expertise, the Acoem tunnel team offers services that cover every aspect of tunnel air quality monitoring – from installation and commissioning to after-sales service, maintenance, data analysis and repairs.
