Your Mission

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Environmental Field Officer to join a well-established team of technicians covering 7 days a week 365 days a year roster.  Ideally, you should have experience in the field of environmental dust and water sampling with strong troubleshooting and laboratory skills.

The role has a focus on field-based skills that are required to monitor, calibrate, maintain and sample environmental dust and water along with good analytical skills to conduct basic analysis in the laboratory. The role provides an exposure to a variety of sampling technologies, analytical equipment and monitoring sites.

Typically, you will need to demonstrate a high degree of self-sufficiency and the ability to independently troubleshoot a variety of sampling equipment.  As much of the work is NATA accredited, diligent and thorough record keeping is an essential part of this role.

Key responsibilities will include

  • Effective time management in resourcing of field monitoring schedules
  • Groundwater, surface water and potable water sampling
  • Dust filter paper collection
  • Minor maintenance and routine calibrations of dust and water field instrumentation and monitoring sites
  • Remote site field operations planning and delivery
  • Preparation and delivery of dust and water samples for analysis
  • Basic laboratory analysis of dust and water samples
  • Inputting of data into database systems, worksheets or PDAs
  • Customer liaison
  • Understand NATA requirements for sampling and record keeping
  • Ability to lead a field-based team
  • Training and development of field staff in appropriate sampling techniques
  • Preparation and submission of both field and monthly reporting requirements.

What qualifications, skills & experience would you need to be successful?

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role preferred
  • Desirable Qualifications – University degree in Environmental Science or similar discipline, Diploma in Environmental Monitoring or similar discipline
  • Previous related field monitoring experience essential
  • Previous Mine site experience preferred
  • A strong OH&S focus – relevant mining and industry standards
  • Sound level of computer literacy
  • Understand NATA requirements for sampling and record keeping
  • Preparation and submission of both field and monthly reporting requirements
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team
  • Precise, accurate and diligent record-keeping skills
  • Current C Class drivers’ license
  • Previous 4WD driving experience as well as long-distance travel preferred.
